Furnace Brook
Furnace Brook begins it’s gurgling path to Onondaga Creek in the steep wooded hillside of northern Onondaga Hill, just south of the City of Syracuse. While most streams that have been channelized suffer from the lack of cover, Furnace Brook was creatively channeled to create habitat for trout.
This stretch of stream flows through the City of Syracuse Parks Department at Elmwood Park. This park has beautifully constructed plunge pools and cascading waterfalls.
The wild population of Brook trout, and Brown trout is supplemented with 400 brook trout from Onondaga County Parks Carpenter's Brook Fish Hatchery. Furnace Brook has wonderful access throughout the park, and it’s close location to metropolitan Syracuse make it a wonderful spot to fish when you have limited time.
